Kitchen Accessory
by Stephen Dinsmore
I would like to be a plum held in your hot hand
these unbearable, humid evenings.
Or I'd bury myself in your sugar pot
till morning, all unseen - but tasted,
giving and taking more than a mortal should.
I would surround you with luscious loving.
Can I slip into your life this way?
My presence to mix with your daily pleasures:
I am the tarragon in your salad dressing -
cream in your coffee, salt in your stew... -
the round scent of olive oil;
the cold, pressed linen of your napkin,
attentive to chin, lips, and lap.
Let me tarry.
