Noel Franklin is a mixed blood Eastern Band Cherokee/Euro-mutt who wasraised
in a chevy station wagon by parents desperate to make a break withtheir
own history. Though still in urban nomad recovery, she earned a B.A.in fine
arts printmaking from WWU, and has since turned her creative energiestoward
the democratic and direct art of spoken word. She performed 37 featuredreadings
in 8 states and 2 countries in 1997 alone. These include the AlbuquerquePoetry
Festival, the Conneticut Poetry Slam Nationals, the premier JackStraw Foundation
Writers Program, Firestorm! feminist readings, an iMusicinternet broadcast
Mary Lou Lord/Amy Denio show from Moe's Mo'Rockin' Cafe(Seattle), and the
Northwest Writers harvest with August Wilson. Her poemshave been self published
in the chapbooks Gone Girl and Theo;have been included in
Descanso, Flying Poems, Cupid, Spoken War, Sonof Slam, Rain City Review,
and the Alburque Poetry Festival Anthology;and are pending publication
in VOX, The Raven Chronicles, Herland,and the Poetry Nation Anthology.
Noel Franklin is an arts activist. She is the co-founder of Eleventh Hour Productions, a Seattlebased
literary and multi-media arts non-profit corporation, where sbe isthe President
of the Board of Directors. She helps curate and produce Realto Reel: poetry
and cinema, Eleventh Hour's monthly reading series, andis Artistic Director
of the Seattle Poetry Festival. Noel also served asliterary arts assistant
for Bumbershoot 1997. |
