Theme Vol. 26, Last Call: In a bar, “last call” means your last chance to order a drink. This is important, because the next public announcement will be the bar closing and you and your friends heading for the door. Well, this is our last call, at least for the near future. The Raven Chronicles, after chronicling the literary antics of tricksters and dreamers, the under-heard, the underserved (and probably underage), since 1991, will no longer publish a regularly-scheduled, subscription-based magazine. Yes, you read that right: the chronicles part of The Raven Chroniclesis subsiding back into the northwest tree pulp from whence it came. Guest Editors: Kathleen Alcala, Priscilla Long, Gary Lilley.

Kathleen Alcala (Fiction Editor): After all these years of reading your stories late into the night, I am going to miss it. Yes, we grumble, but there is nothing quite like that jolt that says, this is familiar, but entirely new. This is exceptional. Now this, this is real writing.

Gary Copeland Lilley (Poetry Editor): The Last Call—a celebration to the rest of the night, after the music, the flirtations, the fails and the successes, the noise of a bar reeking with the stains of everything that declares we are alive. So appropriate a theme for The Raven Chroniclesas it transitions from lit and art journal to a book publishing press.

Priscilla Long (Nonfiction Editor): This is the “Last Call” for Raven Chroniclesin journal form (I salute the vibrant role it has played in the culture of our region).
I am proud of this group of essays. “Last call” means things are over, finished, done, about to close down, but not forgotten, maybe never forgotten.
